FiSCA-Financial Service Centers Of America, Inc.
The Financial Services Centers of America is a professional trade organization,
established in 1987, that represents more than half of the nation's financial service centers, representing over
7,000 locations across the country. The services they represent are check cashing, money transfers, money orders,
bill payments and small dollar, short-term loans. They pride themselves
with "pay as you go products" touting no hidden fees or back-end charges on the products they represent.
Currently FiSCA is anti the Obama-sponsored
Consumer Federal Protection Agency They feel that the creation of such an agency to regulate the "non-banked"
community is unfair and uncalled for. FiSCA, along with other associations such as, CFSA and
OLA, feel that they are being punished for Wall Street's banking crisis. They are proponents
of "main street" customers and have done nothing wrong to deserve "big brother" watching over their industry.
Other than lobbying and political education, FiSCA is dedicated to their community programs such as the Consumer
Empowerment Program, which helps raise awareness and educate consumers about the importance of savings, increasing
financial education and literacy, and creating a new credit reporting and building system, that allows people to build
credit when they are consistent and on time paying rent and other bills that are not traditionally reported to the
three main credit bureaus.
